On May 18, 2019, Kathmandu University, Nepal jointly organized a One-Day Workshop with Hydro Tunnelling and Research Pvt. Ltd., Nepal, Seoul National University, South Korea, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway in association with Nepal Society for Rock Mechanics (NSRM) and International Society of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM). The Workshop titled ‘Tunnel Construction Practices in the Himalaya‘ was supported by Energize Nepal. The main objective of workshop was to exchange views on best construction practices adopted in tunnel construction technology in the Himalaya focusing on the ideas and experiences to enhance the current tunneling practices in the region. It was an effort to bring together all the national and international level experts, stakeholders and academics from tunnel and underground structures in a single platform. With more than fifty participants from various countries, the workshop comprised of two keynote presentations by Prof. Seokwon Jeon and Prof. Krishna Kanta Panthi followed by ten technical presentations relating to underground structures. The workshop helped in sharing new insights in tunnel construction and management practices among the participants. As an integral part of the project ‘Technical Investigation of Tunnel Support Technology in Hydropower Projects Located in the Himalayan Region of Nepal’, the program was successful in introducing the project to the stakeholders and gain their appreciation and support for the project.
